346000, 346830 and 346841: differences and function in the 2-wire system

Distribuidor de planta BTicino 346841 para sistema de videoportero de 2 hilos

The 346000, 346830, and 346841 do not serve the same purpose: the first is a system power supply, the second is a video adapter, and the third is a floor distributor. Identifying them correctly helps you understand a 2-wire video door entry system and avoid confusing components when looking for a replacement.

This comparison focuses on these three references, not on every system accessory or an installation guide. The source is the document 2-Wire Video Door Entry and Door Entry Systems. Technical Data Sheets, March 2018 edition consulted. The references are described according to that documentation, without making any claims about current commercial availability.

Difference between 346000, 346830, and 346841

Reference What it is Documented function
346000 System power supply Supplies power in the audio and video configurations covered by its data sheet.
346830 Video adapter Allows connection of the BUS branches specified for the video configurations associated with the 346000.
346841 Floor distributor Allows star-wired cabling to be distributed to the indoor units.

346000: the system power supply

The 346000 data sheet describes a power supply for 2-wire systems. It covers audio and video applications, with the corresponding associated components for each diagram.

In the documented video installations, the power supply works with devices such as the 346830 adapter or the nodes and matrices specified in its data sheet. Therefore, identifying a 346000 is not enough to determine how the entire video distribution is arranged.

The key point: its function is to supply power. It should not be confused with the floor distributor.

346830: the video adapter associated with the 346000

The 346830 data sheet identifies it as a 2-wire video adapter and documents its association with the 346000 power supply. It describes connections for entrance panels and risers according to the specified configurations.

Among its examples, the same data sheet covers a distribution with two video entrance panels and one riser, or one video entrance panel and two risers. These are configurations documented for the adapter, not authorization to reproduce them without checking the rest of the project.

The key point: the 346830 is neither another power supply nor a floor distributor like the 346841.

346841: the floor distributor

The 346841 allows video door entry systems to be set up with star-wired cabling. Its data sheet specifies four outputs to indoor units and a riser input-output connection.

It also covers risers with mixed wiring, combining one section wired in input-output mode and another using a floor distributor, within the conditions set out in the documentation.

The key point: the 346841 distributes the BUS to the indoor units. It does not replace the power supply function of the 346000 or the adapter function of the 346830.

Are they interchangeable?

They are not interchangeable because they serve different functions. They are different devices that may be part of an installation, depending on its design. The fact that they appear in the same 2-wire system does not mean that one can replace another.

This comparison also does not establish equivalences with current references. To replace a device, check the complete reference, the existing configuration, and the documentation for the proposed replacement.

What to identify before looking for a replacement

Check the reference on the label and determine whether the device you need is the power supply, video adapter, or floor distributor. The shape of the casing or the words “2-wire” are not enough to choose one.

The installer should check the installation diagram and the documentation for the proposed device. Do not buy a component solely because it has similar connections or looks similar.

Frequently asked questions about these three references

Does the 346830 power the system by itself?

The data sheet presents it as a video adapter associated with the 346000 power supply, not as a standalone system power supply.

Does the 346841 replace the 346830?

They do not serve the same purpose. The 346841 is a floor distributor, while the 346830 is a video adapter with the connections described in its data sheet.

Do you need to add a 346830 to any 2-wire power supply?

This cannot be generalized. The association described here applies to the 346000 and the configurations in the documentation consulted. Other power supplies should be checked against their own data sheets.

Does this guide explain how to connect the devices?

No. It explains their functional differences but does not replace an installation diagram. Connections, measurements, and modifications must be carried out by a qualified professional.
