Second Tegui 374455 monitor in a duplex: what to check before installing it

Monitor de videoportero Tegui Swing 374455 blanco, con auricular, pantalla y botones frontales.

Installing a second video door entry monitor on the upper floor of a duplex is convenient: it avoids having to go down to the entrance of the home every time someone calls. However, if you already have a Tegui Swing 374455 in a 2-wire communal installation, you should not connect another monitor without first reviewing the configuration and sizing.

The expansion must be planned so that both terminals belong to the same home and retain the intended functions. The monitor reference alone does not confirm the wiring, the required power supply, or how all the keys will behave in each building.

The case: a duplex with two communal entrances

As an example, we take a community of 46 homes, with two entrance panels and a Tegui 374455 monitor on the entrance floor. The aim is to add another identical monitor on the second floor, with a planned cable run of up to 25 metres between both devices.

The objective is to answer calls from both floors and keep the access doors opening. To assess the expansion, the installer must check both the monitors and the communal installation to which they are connected.

Can a second Tegui 374455 be added?

This is an expansion that can be considered, but its feasibility and the way it should be carried out must be confirmed using the 374455 documentation and the building’s actual wiring diagram. It is not enough for the two devices to be identical or for both to belong to a system referred to as «2-wire».

The official information for the Swing family describes intercom and activation functions. This does not replace checking the specific model, its configuration, and the installation limits before adding an indoor unit.

What the installer must check

1. Equipment identification and call address

It must be checked that the existing monitor and the one to be added correspond to the correct reference and version. The configuration must allow both to answer calls for the same home without altering the address assigned to other residents.

Do not copy configurator settings from another home or change their positions by trial and error.

2. Main and secondary configuration: MASTER/SLAVE

The MASTER/SLAVE configuration is one of the points that must be checked against the device-specific documentation. Do not assume that both monitors should turn on their screens at the same time or that a secondary terminal will behave exactly like the main one.

Before installation, it is advisable to agree on what is expected from each station: call reception, screen activation, answering, automatic activation, and door release. The installer must verify which functions are supported by the selected configuration.

No instruction for fitting or removing JMP1 is included here: that intervention must be carried out using the manual applicable to the device and by a professional. An isolated instruction about a jumper does not replace the complete procedure.

3. BUS routing and line termination

It is necessary to identify how the BUS reaches the home and which topology the manufacturer’s wiring diagram supports for the expansion. Line termination must also be reviewed according to the actual position of the devices and distribution elements.

“The monitor on the upper floor” must not be confused with “the last electrical device on the run”. That position depends on the cable route, not on the height within the duplex.

4. Power supply and installation load

It cannot be guaranteed that adding another monitor will not require any additional component without first checking the installation. The power supply unit, distributors, existing indoor units, and the limits established by the manufacturer must be identified.

In a community of 56 homes, knowing only the number of floors is not enough: the installed equipment, its distribution, and the operating conditions also matter. The need for an additional power supply must be determined by the installer based on this information.

Are 25 metres between monitors acceptable?

The stated 25 metres are not, by themselves, enough to approve or rule out the expansion. The permitted distance depends on the type of cable, the complete route, the topology, and the equipment used.

The professional must compare the actual distances with the tables for the specific system. It is not correct to assume that any 25-metre run will work simply because it is a 2-wire BUS.

Will both doors be able to be opened from both monitors?

This is a requirement that must be verified during configuration and in the final tests. It is necessary to check how the two entrances are managed: opening during a call, panel or camera selection, and any additional key functions.

It should not be promised that copying a configuration will be enough to retain all functions. The result also depends on the components and programming of the communal entrances.

Why we do not offer a universal connection diagram

A drawing showing two monitors connected to the BUS can help explain the expansion concept, but it is not an executable wiring diagram. Without knowing the distributors, power supply, cable used, and home topology, it could lead to an incorrect connection.

The recommended option is for the maintenance installer to prepare the expansion diagram based on the existing one and the manufacturer’s documentation. The work must not affect service for the other residents.

Tests to carry out when finished

  • Call from each of the two entrance panels and check reception at both stations.
  • Check audio and video from each monitor according to its main or secondary operation.
  • Check the door release corresponding to each entrance.
  • Check automatic activation and any additional keys provided for.
  • Confirm that the expansion does not cause faults in the communal installation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect the second monitor directly in parallel?

This should not be done without verifying that the applicable wiring diagram supports that connection and without checking the configuration, termination, and power supply. Having two wires does not mean that any branch connection is valid.

Do I always need a new power supply unit?

There is no universal answer. The need for an additional power supply depends on the sizing and existing configuration.

Will both screens turn on when a call is received?

This should not be assumed. It is one of the behaviours that must be checked against the model documentation and the selected configuration.

Who should carry out the expansion?

A qualified installer, preferably the person responsible for maintaining the community, with access to the wiring diagram and the installation specifications.

Manufacturer technical support

To check the expansion with the manufacturer, prepare the references for the monitors, power supply unit, distributors, and building diagram. Legrand’s technical support service publishes the telephone number 91 991 55 00 and the email address sat.espana@legrandgroup.es, with opening hours from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00.

Consult Legrand’s official technical support and the official information about the Swing family. Tegui Distel and the manufacturer’s official technical support are different services.

In summary: adding a second Tegui 374455 in a duplex requires studying the configuration and the installation as a whole. Before connecting anything, check the power supply, topology, distances, and operation of both entrances with the installer.
