BTicino IP System: IP Network Video Door Entry for Professional Installers

Sistema IP BTicino: videoportero sobre red IP para instaladores profesionales

What is the BTicino IP System?

The BTicino IP System is the video intercom and access control solution based on the IP protocol (TCP/IP), designed for residential and tertiary installations of any scale. Unlike 2-wire or 4+N systems, all communication — video, audio, signaling, and data — runs over the existing Ethernet network infrastructure in the building.

This eliminates dedicated video intercom wiring and allows integrating the system into corporate or residential LAN/WAN networks, with native remote access from smartphones and tablets via the Door Entry app by BTicino.

System architecture

The IP System is structured in three functional layers:

  • Street panel (outdoor unit): Sfera New modules with 5 Mpx camera, alphanumeric keypad, card reader, and graphic display, mounted on 1 to 3 module frames in Allmetal finish. The panel connects directly to the network switch via a single network cable (Cat5e/Cat6).
  • Indoor unit (monitor): monitors from the Classe 300X or Classe 100X range, with touchscreen, built-in Wi-Fi, and compatibility with the mobile app. Each monitor connects to the local network and registers on the system's SIP server.
  • IP/2-Wire Interface: gateway that allows integrating existing 2-wire installations within an IP architecture, protecting the customer's previous wiring investment. Check our 2-Wire Video Intercom and 2-Wire Intercom sections to see compatible systems.

Key components of the Sfera New street panel

The Sfera New modular panel is the system's differentiating element. Its main modules are:

  • 5 Mpx audio/video camera module: wide angle, infrared night vision, and H.264/H.265 compression. Resolution sufficient for reliable facial identification. Available in our store: Tegui Sfera New 5MPx Audio/Video Camera Module (BTicino 351500).
  • Graphic display module: TFT screen showing the directory of residences, text messages, and system status. Makes navigation easier for visitors without needing to know the floor number. Available in our store: Tegui Sfera New Graphic Display Module (BTicino 352500).
  • Alphanumeric keypad module: access by PIN code, compatible with user management from the administration software.
  • Card reader module: proximity access control (RFID), integrable with presence control systems.

Technical advantages for the installer

  • Simplified wiring: a single Cat5e/Cat6 cable per device. No dedicated bus, no polarity, no line terminations.
  • Unlimited scalability: the number of monitors and panels is only limited by the IP network capacity. Ideal for large communities, hotels, and office buildings.
  • Centralized configuration: BTicino software allows managing users, access codes, schedules, and permissions from a single point, with configuration export/import.
  • Native remote access: the owner can see, talk, and open the door from anywhere in the world using the Door Entry app, without needing to configure VPN or port forwarding (connection through BTicino cloud server).
  • Home automation integration: compatible with BTicino/Legrand My Home system via the SCS/IP gateway, allowing automation of scenes (turning on lights when the door opens, activating recording, etc.).
  • Video recording: possibility of local storage (NAS) or cloud storage of missed calls and access events.

Recommended network topology

To ensure quality of service (QoS) in video calls, it is recommended:

  • Managed switch with VLAN and QoS (802.1p/DSCP) support to isolate video intercom traffic from the rest of the network.
  • PoE (Power over Ethernet) to power door panels and monitors without additional power wiring (IEEE 802.3af/at depending on model).
  • Minimum bandwidth of 2 Mbps per active video call (H.264, 720p resolution).
  • Maximum recommended latency of 150 ms on the segment between panel and monitor to avoid audio echo.

Comparison: IP System vs. 2 Wires vs. 4+N

Feature 2 Wires 4+N IP
Dedicated wiring Yes (2-wire bus) Yes (4 wires) No (LAN network)
Maximum number of homes ~500 ~99 Unlimited
Remote access With gateway With gateway Native
Home automation integration Limited Limited Complete
Wiring cost Medium High Low (reuses network)
Configuration complexity Low Medium Medium-High

When to recommend the IP System?

The IP System is the optimal choice in the following scenarios:

  • New buildings with structured network infrastructure.
  • Large communities (+50 homes) where the scalability of 2-wire is insufficient.
  • Tertiary installations (hotels, offices, residences) requiring advanced access control and centralized management.
  • Projects where the client demands remote access and push notifications without additional hardware.
  • Renovations where network cabling already exists and civil works for a new bus are to be avoided.

Starter solution: kit with panel and Wi-Fi monitor

For single-family homes or small communities looking to switch to IP with a compact solution, the 2-Wire Wi-Fi Video Door Entry Kit Classe 300X New Light + Linea 3000 Black Panel (BTicino 363942) provides an accessible entry into the BTicino ecosystem with a Wi-Fi monitor and premium design panel.
