Don’t panic: most problems have a solution

A door phone that doesn’t work can be caused by many issues: from a simple electrical problem to a damaged component that needs replacement. Before calling a technician or buying a new device, follow this step-by-step diagnosis.

Diagnosis: what exactly is wrong?

The monitor won’t turn on

  • Check that there is power in the installation (check the differential and circuit breaker in the electrical panel)
  • Make sure the 2-wire cable is properly connected to the monitor terminals
  • If the monitor still won’t turn on, it may be damaged and need replacement

The doorbell doesn’t ring when called

  • Check that the outdoor panel has power
  • Check the cable connections between the panel and monitor
  • Try calling from another button if there is more than one
  • The button on the panel may be damaged

The doorbell rings but there is no image

  • The camera on the outdoor panel may be dirty or damaged
  • The monitor screen may be faulty
  • Check the video cable connections

There is image but no audio

  • Check the monitor volume
  • The microphone or speaker on the panel or monitor may be damaged

The door won’t open

  • Check that the opening relay is working (you should hear a click when pressing the open button)
  • Check the opening cable connections on the electric lock
  • The electric lock may be damaged

When to replace the door phone?

If the diagnosis points to a damaged monitor, replacement is the most economical and fastest solution. In most cases, you can replace just the indoor monitor without changing the outdoor panel or wiring.
