Complete Installation Guide: Tegui BTicino 2-Wire Video Intercom and Door Entry System

Guía de diseño e instalación de videoportero y portero 2 hilos Tegui BTicino sistema Eliot

What is the Tegui and BTicino 2-wire system?

The 2-wire video intercom and intercom system from Tegui and BTicino — marketed under the Eliot platform — is an access control and interior-exterior communication solution that uses only two conductors to simultaneously transmit power, audio, and video. This eliminates the need for additional wiring and greatly simplifies installation in both new construction and renovations.

Unlike conventional analog systems (4+N, 5+N coaxial), the 2-wire bus uses the BUS SCS protocol (Simplified Cabling System), which allows all devices in the installation to be connected in parallel without polarity, with free topology (star, bus, tree, or mixed) and distances up to 100 meters per segment without amplifier.

Advantages of the 2-wire system compared to conventional systems

  • Simplified wiring: only 2 polarity-free conductors for the entire installation.
  • Free topology: bus, star, tree, or mixed according to building needs.
  • Scalability: from 1 home to large community installations with multiple button columns.
  • WiFi compatibility: monitors from the Classe 100X and 300X range allow integration with smartphones via the Door Entry app.
  • Polarity-free installation: reduces errors on site and facilitates maintenance.
  • Home automation integration: compatible with the BTicino MyHOME ecosystem and voice control.

Main components of a 2-wire installation

A complete Tegui/BTicino 2-wire video intercom installation consists of the following elements:

1. Outdoor panel (camera or call module)

It is the element installed at the building entrance. It can be an audio panel (intercom) or an audio/video panel (video intercom). The Linea 3000 and Linea 4000 series panels allow configuration from 1 up to hundreds of buttons through expandable modules. Some include an RFID reader for keyless entry.

2. Indoor monitor (video intercom) or phone (intercom)

The monitor is the unit installed in each home. It receives the call, displays the camera image, and allows the door to be opened. The most advanced models include a touchscreen, WiFi, and mobile app.

3. Feeder

The power supply provides the necessary energy to the bus. In small installations (1-4 homes), a single power supply is usually sufficient. Larger installations require additional power supplies depending on the number of devices and cable length.

4. Expansion modules and accessories

For installations in communities with multiple homes, button expansion modules, signal splitters, additional opening relays, and alphanumeric or numeric call modules are used.

Types of installation according to the building

Single-family installation (1 home)

The simplest configuration: one outdoor panel, one indoor monitor, and one power supply. The wiring between panel and monitor can reach up to 100 m with 2×0.5 mm² cable. No address configuration is required on the monitor.

Installation in apartment block (multi-home)

Each monitor must be configured with a unique address using the configurators (jumpers or DIP switch depending on the model). The outdoor panel calls the corresponding address when pressing the button for each home. Up to 8 monitors per home can be connected in parallel.

Installation with multiple entrances

When the building has multiple entrances (garage, main entrance, secondary entrance), a panel is installed at each access. All panels share the same bus and any monitor can receive calls from any entrance.

Design guide: steps to plan the installation

Step 1 — Determine the number of homes and entrances

Define how many homes the building has and how many controlled entrances you need. This determines the number of buttons on the panel and the number of monitors.

Step 2 — Select the outdoor panel

Choose between an audio panel (intercom) or audio/video (video intercom). For communities, select the base module and add the necessary button modules. Consider if you need an RFID reader or code keypad.

Step 3 — Select the monitor per home

For basic installations, the Classe 100 is the most economical option. For installations with WiFi integration and mobile app, the Classe 100X or Classe 300X are the recommended choices.

Step 4 — Calculate the power supply

Check the system composition table to determine the number of power supplies based on the number of devices. As a general rule, a standard power supply supports installations of up to 8-10 homes with short wiring.

Step 5 — Plan the wiring

The 2-wire bus supports free topology. Use shielded cable of 2×0.5 mm² for runs up to 100 m. For longer runs, add a signal amplifier. Remember there is no polarity: the two conductors are interchangeable.

Step 6 — Configure the addresses

Assign a unique address to each monitor using the system configurators. The BTicino Coding Kit 306065 includes the configurators needed for up to 50 homes.

Practical tips for installers

  • Do not use coaxial cable: the 2-wire BUS SCS system is not compatible with coaxial. Always use twisted pair or shielded cable.
  • Avoid loops in the wiring: although the topology is free, do not close the bus in a ring.
  • Power from the center: if the installation is large, place the power supply at the bus’s central point to maximize the available distance at each end.
  • Test before closing wall chases: connect and test the complete system before covering the wiring.
  • Download the technical manuals: on our manuals page you will find composition tables, installation diagrams, and quick guides for all Tegui and BTicino products.

Frequently asked questions about the 2-wire system

Can I mix Tegui and BTicino components in the same installation?

Yes. Tegui is BTicino’s Spanish brand (Legrand group). All products in the 2-wire BUS SCS system are fully compatible with each other, regardless of whether they carry the Tegui or BTicino name.

How many monitors can I connect in total?

The system supports up to 200 homes with a maximum of 8 monitors per home, allowing installations of up to 1,600 monitors in large communities with the proper configuration.

Is the 2-wire system compatible with home automation?

Yes. The Classe 100X and 300X WiFi monitors integrate with BTicino’s Door Entry app, allowing you to receive calls and open the door from your smartphone even when you are not at home.

What is the difference between an intercom and a video intercom?

The intercom (audio) only transmits voice between the outdoor panel and the indoor monitor. The video intercom adds real-time video transmission, allowing you to see who is calling before opening.
